The Red Galathea Crab, Galathea balssi, also known as the Squat Lobster very much resemble terrestrial spiders. They have long pincers and long legs. Hunting using camouflage, the Squat Lobster hides and grabs its unsuspecting prey. They are easy to care for and reef safe with caution (if not housed with its prey which includes small snails, small fishes, shrimps, and algae). They prefer tanks with plenty of hiding places, live rock, plants, corals, and a sandy substrate.
Like other lobsters, it will occasionally lose its exoskeleton in a process called molting. They should not be kept more than one in the tank as they can become territorial. The Squat Lobster are excellent scavengers and will ultimately help keep your tank clean.
