The cactus/chili coral (Nephthyigorgia sp.) is a striking coral found primarily in tropical and subtropical waters. Known for its vibrant, chili-red or orange coloration, this coral species thrives in shallow reef environments where it forms dense, bushy colonies. Nephthyigorgia sp. is a type of soft coral, distinguished by its flexible, branching structure and its ability to capture plankton and small fish through specialized feeding polyps. Unlike stony corals, which build hard calcium carbonate skeletons, cactus/chili corals have a soft, flexible body that allows them to adapt to varying water currents and light conditions.
