The Blackbar Hogfish (Bodianus speciosus) can be found throughout the eastern Atlantic, primarily off of the coast of Africa. Males have a brownish grey body and a bright white posterior, which are separated by a broad, vertical black stripe; the black continues onto the fin. Females are more red in coloration, still having the black stripe and accents on the caudal fin, though, and juveniles are a light blue with a yellow face, and one black spot on their dorsal fin. They primarily inhabit reefs with high amounts of algae for grazing, and feed on a variety of invertebrates, though mainly crustaceans. They reach a maximum size of 20 inches and should be kept with other large fish of similar temperament.
